WHAT GETS INSPECTED

Every inspection covers the whole house.

Here’s what a home inspector looks for on a standard inspection — and, just as important, what falls outside one. Tap any part of the house to see the details.

Roof and attic

What I check
  • Roof covering, walked when it is safe to
  • Flashing at the chimney, valleys and penetrations
  • Gutters, downspouts and where the water goes
  • Attic framing, insulation, ventilation and signs of past leaks
Not covered
Steep, wet or fragile roofs are viewed from the ground or a ladder. Remaining roof life isn't estimated.

THE STANDARD

What “inspected” actually means.

Every inspection follows the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board’s Standards of Practice: a visual, non-invasive examination of the readily accessible systems and components of the home. You’ll get a pre-inspection agreement in writing that spells out the scope before I start.

Questions about what’s covered? Call.

I’d rather explain the scope before the inspection than after it.
